My name is Victoria Baker and like so many other dog trainers out there, I became a dog trainer by default. Starting with my own dogs training them to hunt, then working with Mountain Pet Rescue in Grand County fostering a new dog almost on monthly basis. That was when dog training became my calling. There was nothing more rewarding than helping a dog with "issues" become adoptable and find their furever homes.
That experience led me to really study dog behavior. I am a graduate of Rocky Mountain Regional Dog Trainer Academy which provided me with the study of dog behavior modification, learning and training. It also provided me with the basics of positive reinforcement training, as I knew in my heart that I could never punish a dog into being good and looked for a better way. I harnessed the tools of positive reinforcement to change how my fosters and my own dogs understood their world and my expectations. Suddenly my passion took over and now I've made a career of it.
After training hundreds of dogs; managing a boarding facility that provided care for over 100+ dogs a day; and helping over 100 rescue dogs find their forever homes, I have found my niche in helping dogs and their people learn to communicate and minimize frustration and “bad” behavior on both ends of the leash. I am recognized as a “go to” for difficult and aggressive dogs; several dog rescues and dog trainers send me their most difficult cases. I specialize in behavior modification such as:
• reactivity (leash, car, noise, door crazy, etc)
• resource guarding
• separation anxiety
• fear aggression (dog-dog), (dog-human), (dog-child)
• over arousal and biting
• general anxiety
• barking and whining
I also specialize in more advance skills such as off-leash reliability training, skijoring, and upland mushing. I’ve developed successful protocols for door crazy dogs and polite leash walking. And, after having a deaf dog, I specialize in that too. I perform dog behavior evaluations for several Colorado dog rescues.I LOVE watching dogs improve their life skills and emotional well-being and seeing families uncover the dog they want, hidden inside the dog they have.
